Advisory Board Meeting

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

 

A meeting of the Advisory Board of Southeast Area Cooperative was held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the office of Southeast Area Cooperative in Beresford, South Dakota.  Members present were:  Tim Rhead, Alcester-Hudson School District; Terry Gerber, Canton School District; Sheri Hardman, Elk Point-Jefferson School District; Dave Hutchison, Irene-Wakonda School District; and Peggy Peterson, Viborg-Hurley School District.  Also present were Tricia West, Director and Cheryl Johnson, Business Manager, Southeast Area Cooperative.

 

President Tim Rhead called the meeting to order at 10:36 a.m.

 

A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Terry Gerber to approve the agenda, with the addition of approving signatures for the pop and flower fund and approving the hire of Amanda Hilgemann.  Motion carried.

 

The financial report was prepared by the Business Manager for May 2017 was presented.  General Fund Opening Balance:  $199,512.02; Receipts: $141,911.68; Disbursements: $135,807.83; for a closing balance of $205,615.87.  A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Peggy Peterson to approve the financials, as presented.  Motion carried.

 

A listing of bills for June 2017 was presented.  A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Peggy Peterson to approve the payment of bills.  Motion carried.

 

A list of items to be surplused was presented.  A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Peggy Peterson to surplus the items.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Peggy Peterson to add Tricia West and Cheryl Johnson as signatures to the pop and flower fund.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Sheri Hardman to approve the hire of Amanda Hilgemann, SLP/A.  A discussion was held, including all avenues that were explored to continue to employ our current SLP that had resigned.  Dave Hutchison expressed his disappointment in the hiring of an SLP/A, rather than an SLP.   On a roll call vote: Alcester-Hudson, yes; Canton, yes; Elk Point-Jefferson, yes; Irene-Wakonda, no; Viborg-Hurley, yes.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Sheri Hardman and seconded by Dave Hutchison to approve the hire of Kristina Winter, Early Childhood Special Education teacher.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Peggy Peterson to approve the hire of Jean Akland, Early Childhood Special Education paraprofessional.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Dave Hutchison to approve the SILDL Coordinator contract for Jason Selchert.  Motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Sheri Hardman and seconded by Terri Gerber to enter executive session at 11:05 a.m. for the purpose of discussing the qualifications, competence, performance, character, or fitness of any public officer or prospect public officer or employee (SDCL 1-25-2(1)).  Motion carried.  President Tim Rhead declared the board out of executive session at 11:34 a.m.

 

A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Sheri Hardman to recommend to the Board of Directors that staff members be allowed to donate to Katie Naslund one day of sick leave per staff member up to a total of fifteen days.  On a roll call vote: Alcester-Hudson, yes; Canton, yes; Elk Point-Jefferson, yes; Irene-Wakonda, yes; Viborg-Hurley, no.  Motion carried.

 

The Leadership Team report included: the service report; update on Tricia’s classes; business manager hire timeline; new board of director member information; needs assessment recap; IDEA funds increase for 2017-2018; retirements and Spirt of the Coop recognition; 30th anniversary celebration; vacancies, and Kindergarten Academy.

 

A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Dave Hutchison to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 12:05 p. m. Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11th at 10:30 a.m.
