Advisory Board Meeting
Wednesday, April 17, 2019
A meeting of the Advisory Board of Southeast Area Cooperative was held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the office of Southeast Area Cooperative in Beresford, South Dakota. Members present were: Tim Rhead, Alcester‐Hudson School District; Brian Field, Beresford School District; Terry Gerber, Canton (via phone); Derek Barrios, Elk Point‐Jefferson School District; and Jason Selchert, Gayville‐Volin School District. Also present were Tricia West, Director and Ann Boden, Business Manager Southeast Area Cooperative.
Vice President Derek Barrios called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m.
A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Jason Selchert to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Jason Selchert to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2019 meeting. Motion carried.
The financial report as prepared by the Business Manager for March 2019 was presented:
General Fund Opening Balance: $380,012; Receipts: $115,768; Disbursements: $128,672; for a closing balance of $367,108. A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Brian Field to approve the
financial report, as presented. Motion carried.
A listing of bills was presented. A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Jason Selchert to approve the payment of bills. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Terry Gerber to approve the retirement of early childhood teacher Lela Hall. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Jason Selchert and seconded by Tim Rhead to approve the hire of Lela Hall as part‐time Birth to Three Coordinator. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Brian Field to table the approval of job descriptions/hire for proposed positions until the June 12, 2019 Advisory Board meeting. Motion carried.
The Leadership Team report included:
A recap was given on negotiations which were held on April 4th.
Perkins reauthorization is expected July 1st. School staff will not be contacted until this summer to submit proposals.
Districts need to reauthorize the comprehensive plan at their May board meetings.
Early childhood screenings are complete. The number of students estimated in each preschool next fall was presented.
The coop is advertising for an Early Childhood SPED teacher for Canton.
Tricia asked that districts let her know of any changes in SPED staff for next school year.
ESY services qualifications were reviewed.
The first session of Kindergarten Academy is full there are forty SAC and school district staff registered.
Para‐educator training for school district staff is scheduled for August 7th in Beresford.
SAC fall in‐service will be August 13th.
A motion was made by Jason Selchert and seconded by Brian Field to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:20 a.m. The next meeting of the Advisory Board will be Wednesday, June 12th at 9:30 a.m.
