Advisory Board Meeting
Tuesday April 21, 2020


A meeting of the Advisory Board of Southeast Area Cooperative was held on Tuesday, March 21, 2020 at the office of Southeast Area Cooperative, Beresford, South Dakota via Zoom conferencing. Members present were: Tim Rhead, Alcester-Hudson School District; Terry Gerber, Canton School District; Derek Barrios, Elk Point-Jefferson School District; Jason Selchert Gayville-Volin School District; and Brett Mellem Viborg-Hurley School District. Also present were Tricia West, Director and Ann Boden, Business
Manager Southeast Area Cooperative.


Derek Barrios called the meeting to order at 11:02 a.m.
A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Tim Rhead to approve the agenda. Motion carried.


A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Terry Gerber to approve the minutes of the March 17, 2020 meeting. Motion carried.


The financial report as prepared by the Business Manager for March 2020 was presented: General Fund Opening Balance: $501,620; Receipts: $148,033; Disbursements: $147,673; for a closing balance of $501,980. A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Tim Rhead to approve the financial report as presented. Motion carried.


A listing of bills was presented. A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Brett Mellem to approve the payment of bills. Motion carried.


Derek Barrios thanked early childhood paraprofessional Joan Nelson for her 24 years of service. A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Brett Mellem to approve the retirement Joan Nelson. Motion carried.


A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Brett Mellem to approve the Behavioral Specialist job description and the hire of Desiree Parmenter as the Behavioral Specialist for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried.


The Leadership Team report included:
 Kindergarten Academy has been cancelled.
 An update was given on the status of the 2020-2021 Perkins application.
 A Google classroom with para professional resources has been created and is available for districts if requested.
 The difference between extended school year and compensatory services was reviewed.


A motion was made by Jason Selchert and seconded by Terry Gerber to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 11:39 a.m.
