Advisory Board Meeting
Tuesday, April 20, 2021


A meeting of the Advisory Board of Southeast Area Cooperative was held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the office of Southeast Area Cooperative, Beresford, South Dakota. Members present were: Tim Rhead, Alcester-Hudson School District; Brian Field, Beresford School District; Terry Gerber, Canton School District; Derek Barrios, Elk Point-Jefferson School District; Dave Hutchison, Irene-Wakonda School District; and Brett Mellem, Viborg-Hurley School District. Also present were Tricia West, Director and Ann Boden, Business Manager Southeast Area Cooperative.

Dave Hutchison called the meeting to order at 11:12 a.m.

A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Brett Mellem to approve the agenda with a change to item 6 to include approve hire of Kim Reins. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Derek Barrios to approve the minutes of the March 16, 2021 meeting. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

The financial report as prepared by the Business Manager for March 2021 was presented: General Fund Beginning Balance: $493,936; Receipts: $202,619; Disbursements: $143,621 for an ending balance of $493,936. A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Tim Rhead to approve the financial report as presented. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A listing of bills was presented. A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Brett Mellem to approve the payment of bills. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Derek Barrios and seconded by Terry Gerber to approve the hire of Amanda Edlund, Speech Language Pathologist and Kim Reins, Speech Language Pathologist for the 2021-2022 school year. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Brian Field and seconded by Terry Gerber to approve the sick leave bank request of six days by Tawnya Heer pending the receipt of a signed 2021-2022 contract. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

The Leadership Team report included:
 A reminder was given that summer programs funded with COVID-19 grants must include students with disabilities.
 Districts need to approve their comprehensive plans in May.
 A review of the use of Totem training and plans to complete Aspen training for all districts was given.
 2021-2022 approved calendars and fall paraprofessional training was discussed.
 The request by the Gayville-Volin school district to purchase Physical Therapy services from Southeast Area Cooperative during the 2021-2022 school year was discussed. More information will be provided at the June board meeting.

A motion was made by Tim Rhead and seconded by Derek Barrios to move the June Advisory Board meeting to June 14, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Terry Gerber and seconded by Brett Mellem to adjourn the meeting. All present voted yes. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 11:47 a.m.
