Advisory Board Meeting
July 12, 2023
A meeting of the Advisory Board of Southeast Area Cooperative was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023
at the office of Southeast Area Cooperative, Beresford, South Dakota. Members present were: Dustin Degen, Beresford School District; Russ Townsend, Canton School District (virtual); Philip Schonebaum, Elk Point-Jefferson School District (virtual); Dave Hutchison, Irene-Wakonda School District; and Brett Mellem, Viborg-Hurley School District. Also present were Tricia West, Director and Ann Boden, Business Manager Southeast Area Cooperative.
Brett Mellem called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.
A motion was made by Dustin Degen and seconded by Dave Hutchison to approve the agenda. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
Public Hearing as authorized by the Board of Directors for Wednesday, July 12, 2023 was held on the proposed 2023-2024 budget. Ann Boden presented the budget. A motion was made by Dave Hutchison
and seconded by Dustin Degen to recommend approval of the 2023-2024 budget to the Board of Directors. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
A motion was made Russ Townsend and seconded by Phil Schonebaum to appoint Tim Rhead as Advisory Board President and Dustin Degen as Advisory Board Vice President. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
Dustin Degen took over as chairperson of the meeting.
A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Russ Townsend to approve the minutes of the June 20, 2023 meeting. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
The financial report as prepared by the Business Manager for June 2023 was presented: General Fund
Beginning Balance: $957,152; Receipts: $149,319; Disbursements: $203,085 for an ending balance of
$903,386. A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Russ Townsend to approve the financial report as presented. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
A listing of bills was presented. A motion was made by Dave Hutchison and seconded by Brett Mellem to
approve the payment of June 2023 payable bills and the July bills. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
A motion was Russ Townsend and seconded by Phil Schonebaum to approve the Perkins Local Plan and
submission of the Perkins Grant. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Dave Hutchison to set the Advisory board meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. All present voted yes. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Russ Townsend to approve the hire of Nichole
Bohnsack, Adapted PE teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. All present voted yes. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Brett Mellem and seconded by Russ Townsend to adjourn the meeting. All present voted yes. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 11:33 a.m.
